Under pinning in London basement in the borough of Chelsea and Fulham is now completed. The partial retro-fit basement had a limited existing area that had low headroom. The entire footprint has now been excavated, the external walls under pinned, the drains re-routed and a reduced level excavation completed on the floor. A bespoke set of oak stairs have been completed and the handrails fitted at a recently completed basement which was a part conversion of a existing basement and partially a retro fit construction under the dining area. The original basement has now been extended to a lounge, office area and shower room. One of the features is that DVDs can be stored out of site on shelves underneath the stair treads. The handrails in brushed nickel and oak look simply amazing.

A large basement has been tanked with a waterproof slurry capable of withstanding 7 bars of pressure. The concrete walls were sand-blasted to ensure a adequate key for the tanking slurry. The walls were then pressure washed to remove the dust and debris. 3 coats of waterproof tanking were then applied to this retro-fit basement construction project. The walls will now receive 2 coat of render.

Vaulted cellars and basements make very interesting spaces and are very suitable for conversion projects using cavity drainage membrane systems. We see a lot of these vaulted spaces, especially around Bath and Bristol, which have often also been previously waterproofed using cementitious or other tanking products.

Cavity drainage membrane systems work on the principle of allowing water to penetrate the structure, but then control it under such circumstances in the air gap and divert it to a suitable drainage point. These systems offer the lowest risk long-term solutions for waterproofing structures underground.
